Juke Joints have a long history in both urban and rural settings in the USA, and have spurned any number of trends ranging from venacular to technology adoption. Even commonplace terminology such as the ‘Jukebox’ was coined in association with juke joints.

The Coin-slot phonograph became known as a jukebox from the rapid adoption of this technology by African Americans in Juke Joints in the 1930’s. In Swinging With The Machine, it is suggest that when architect Le Corbusier visited the U.S. in the 1930’s, he concluded that “African Americans had successfully integrated music and technology.” Rapid technology adoption is another trend that can be associated within the urban marketplace, which the research of John T. Barber's has detailed extensively.

During the 1990’s the vernacular 'joint', started taking on new meaning, as in the place to be, the epitome and/or best of class.  Juke Joint will also "represent", but even better you can come as you are, or come as you're not most anytime.  Either way you will be welcome!
