Willis G. Smith founded W.G. Smith & Associates, LLC after a successful career in cable television management as Area Manager of Time Warner Cable in Durham, North Carolina. With direct responsibility for the diverse urban market and communities of Durham, Chapel Hill, and Carrboro (The Research Triangle), he grew the customer base and market share through acquisition and retention, and by paying close attention to the market’s diversity, demographic changes, household income segments and community cultures.
Anticipating that diverse consumers would play an increasing impact on business cycles and the overall marketplace, Willis G. Smith formed W.G. Smith & Associates, LLC to assist companies and organizations in research, management decision-making, and strategic marketing. He got his research career started in Washington D.C. working in a variety of industry and policy organizations, including the National Cable Television Association. While at NCTA, he worked on a variety of research initiatives for their Research & Policy office that included: policy (Must-Carry, Copyright, & Taxation), legal briefs (Quincy vs. F.C.C.), as well as econometric market studies (Cable Demand & Penetration). While in Washington D.C. he also studied broadcast ratings, research and sales analysis under Dot Stein of WDCA -TV.
He has a Masters of Arts in Mass Communications from Howard University and received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Broadcasting from the University of Cincinnati, where he was also an exchange student in African Studies at the University of Ghana in Legon Ghana. He has served on the Adjunct Faculty of Prince George’s Community College and Howard University.
